Washington DC or Remote | Full Time

The Director of Programming will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the programs in their portfolio to conceptualize projects and events in the areas of residential construction, architecture, and adjacent spaces. The position will report to the Vice President, Programming and work with members of the team on strategy and new event concepts. The Director of Programming will immerse themselves in developing substantive knowledge of each project, program operations, and respective business plan. The primary areas of focus for this role include: program leadership and management, external relationships, and knowledge management.

 

Responsibilities

 

Program Leadership & Management:

  • Enhance, amplify, and implement organizational vision
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence
  • Demonstrate consistent quality of communications, operations, and management of event programming
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the program goals
  • Attract, develop, and coach high-performance speakers, panelists, and moderators to empower them to bring their insight and expertise, and maintain long-term relationships with them
  • Partner with staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality project management

 

External Relationships:

  • Expand revenue generating activities to support existing programs and the growth of Zonda events
  • Cultivate existing relationships and develop new relationships
  • Manage current relationships with and grow new partner organizations
  • Become a trusted advisor and partner with speakers, panelists, and moderators

 

Knowledge Management:

  • Develop the necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection, and sharing of knowledge generated by the programs
  • Create and implement a dissemination system to share organizational learning with a broad range of internal and external communities
  • Ensure that key project outcomes are obtained through recruitment and management of expert speakers and sources
  • Work collaboratively with other Zonda units to integrate cross program activities and functions

 

Qualifications

The Director of Programming will be thoroughly committed to Zonda’s event strategy and mission. All candidates will have demonstrated leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

 

Specific requirements include:

  • Embraces a hands-on approach in leading a variety of initiatives
  • Experienced with leading performance-based staff and outcome-based programs
  • Possesses outstanding written and verbal communication skills; must be a  persuasive, credible, and polished communicator; can easily engage a wide range of stakeholders including advisory groups, corporate sponsors, and potential partners
  • Owns an unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives
  • Has the ability to work collaboratively with internal  and external partners, in addition to other organizations, to provide exposure for program impact to business goals
  • Previously developed and operationalized strategies that have accelerated program or organizational  growth
  • Consistently demonstrates solid judgment and leadership skills, especially in challenging situations
  • Experienced in budget management
  • Possesses a high degree of integrity, strong work ethic, positive and mission-driven attitude, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for the mission
  • Is team player, who can connect and operate effectively with peers, management team, and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
  • Can handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and thrive in a matrix environment with multiple priorities
  • Possesses strong analytical skill and business acumen
  • B.A in English, Communications, Journalism, or similar fields
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience
