Full-time; Remote

Zonda is seeking an ambitious, imaginative and collaborative VP, Design - a leadership position in our Zonda Media platform. The primary responsibilities of the VP, Design are to define, lead, and oversee design operations and quality control across the assigned Zonda channels including digital properties, magazines, marketing services, associated products, and projects in partnership with internal stakeholders including editorial, events, marketing services, and marketing. The VP, Design oversees our internal creative teams with drive, passion, and innovation.

  

The VP, Design is responsible for overseeing the design department and its training, evaluations, and mentoring. The VP, Design strives for award-winning work, superior relationships with all internal stakeholders, and coordinated, creative problem solving. The VP, Design, working in conjunction with Human Resources, oversees all aspects of staffing and all aspects of the employee lifecycle. Projects delegated to the staff are nonetheless supervised by the VP, Design to ensure they are visually consistent with other Zonda products and are completed on-time and on-budget.

  

Responsibilities

  • Be the trailblazer and a change agent for the industry by articulating strong ideas and vision for the future
  • Translate strategic goals into phases of planning and executing across skillset & domains (ux, vd, content, front-end, product design, brand design, between formats, & audiences)
  • Nurture and complement the existing team with the right skillsets, expand our the design team culture
  • Scale product and brand strategy, design experiences and advanced interactions across our platforms 
  • Ship new work, caliber quick fixes, optimize all of the platforms for a seamless and low-friction experience
  • Run design engagements across the horizon with cross-functional team for internal and external product
  • Architect elegant design systems with diligent decision documentation & design systems management
  • Be a design champion and a user advocate to diplomatically facilitate execution to our values and ethics
  • Build relationships across orgs to facilitate trust and make time to get buy-off from other disciplines
  • Model collaboration skills, guide people in processes, expand our culture, and improve efficiency
  • As a remote team, willingness to travel and meet-up for facetime for internal and external meetings
  • Passionate to learn about real-estate, markets, economy, data, mapping to translate to practice

 

Requirements

  • Experience: 5-10 years of management with a mix of agency or in-house work launching platforms, products, brands, services, and experiences with a learning mindset in regard of platforms (web, email, iOS, Android), mediums (digital, print or space) and business models (sass, data, media)
  • Samples Of Work: Documentation of beautiful consumer and ad bidding products cross-platform with respect to understanding complex UR/UX/UI/CT systems, scale, demonstrating business and technical intel
  • Education: Undergrad or grad training in HCI, Human Factors, UX/UI, New Media, Journalism, interaction and experience design, with passion for emerging tracks like voice interfaces, AI, ML and so on
  • Strategy: Partner with the leadership team to expand the creative team that can support and execute end to end new strategic initiatives, consulting work and ongoing production work. Experience driving multi-year vision and portfolio-level design initiatives. Fluency in providing timely and impactful design direction when needed. Expertise at working autonomously to influence decisions across and upwards within an organization
  • Team Building: Lead and mentor a team of highly skilled design leaders and teams, with a focus on the leadership’s ability to scale and deliver excellence in a sustainable way. Design the organization itself, with a focus on building capability and competency. Build, develop, retain and motivate a diverse team while recruiting for new members and continually raising the bar for talent, vendors, capabilities and internal community
  • UX Design: Deep fluency in UX discovery, strategy, research, & interaction design. Distill complicated problems into elegant solutions, setting KPIs, communicating technical limitations, system design, backlog management, design system management, while innovating in regard to brand & building character. Bring content strategy, audits, taxonomies, creative writing, voice and tone practice. Guiding creative writing for editorial, marketing, support, sales teams in creating systems and corporate culture
  • Design Lifecycle: Own complete end-to-end solutions throughout the build cycle from sprint to release through phases of research, conception, execution to hand-off of assets and requirements, supporting excellence all the way through QA to go live
  • Design Community: Life-long learner following & influencing industry leaders, sharing best practices along the way. Represent Zonda and provide thought leadership on an industry-level. Clearly articulate a compelling point of view on the future of design practice. 
  • Teaming: Detail oriented, organized, clear communicator, flexible, open-minded optimistic, generative, visionary and open new ideas and ways of working, hungry to innovate
  • Leadership: Radiate information, make intros and connections, model culture and creative values in the organization. Understand how to effectively make cultural, process and product changes across different time horizons. Role-model responsible product making practices - both by creating world-class responsible design practices, and designing with other functions on their capability. Experience building, leading and developing strategic design organizations including a proven track record in coaching and developing senior design leaders. Proven collaboration and relationship-building skills including experience developing working relationships and driving cross-team collaboration
  • Project Management: Implement a range modern tools from weekly stand-ups, rituals, software to pace and run teams in a multi-time zone, cross-cultural environments & fast-paced environment. Support teams through planning, prioritization and collaboration
  • Tools: Awesome in Figma, Adobe, a tool tinkerer & always exploring
