As an AWS Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for researching, recommending, and delivering specific systems, applications, data, or process designs for large or complex cloud infrastructure solutions. In instances where the solution does not exist, you will be relied upon to investigate and develop a unique solution. This role will design, develop, and analyze overall architecture to determine that hardware, software, and data architecture solutions meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security needs. The role will be a key contributor on architectural governance and decisions related to projects.

Responsibilities:

  • AWS Services including IAM, ECS, DynamoDB, EC2, RDS, CloudTrail, Lambda, and CloudWatch
  • Develop appropriate coding standards and practices leveraging source code management to perform code review, build automation processes, deploy infrastructure, and monitor operations
  • Develop and Manage Infrastructure as Code using TerraForm, TerraGrunt, Typescript, etc.
  • Develop CI/CD pipelines leveraging automation tools, DKS, Packer, GitHub actions, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, CodeCommit, etc.
  • Leverage AWS Cost Explorer to help reduce overall costs related to AWS environment
  • Provide analysis and recommendations in support of discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
  • Lead projects and activities to migrate legacy systems and operations to AWS
  • Operate and maintain the hybrid infrastructure components for reliability and cost metrics.
  • Development and implementation of formal standards for cloud deployment and related health and performance monitoring components and operational practices
  • Assistance in the design and execution of system load and stress testing
  • Provide recommendations for deployment optimization and stability improvements back to Engineering for incorporation into future product releases
  • Performance of regular upgrades to cloud systems and associated services
  • Evaluation, testing, development, and installation of system enhancements and new software
  • Support Software Engineering team DevOps and CI/CD processes
  • Active participation in the Hanley Wood AGILE development process including participation in SCRUM and the regular release of software updates to all environments
  • Periodic 24/7 on-call required

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS cloud deployment and operations
  • Hands-on experience leading the design, development, and deployment of business software at scale or current hands-on technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience
  • Subject matter expert (SME) level of experience with Microsoft server technologies including Windows Server (through Windows 2019) and Internet Information Server (through IIS 10)
  • Advanced understanding of LAMP (LINUX, Apache, MYSQL, PHP) web implementations
  • AGILE development methodology experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with virtualization technologies strongly preferred
  • Experience transforming legacy applications into cloud-native applications
  • Experience performing AWS well architected framework reviews and other similar environment evaluations
  • Experience with TerraForm, TerraGrunt, Typescript
  • Experience with automation tools, DKS, Packer, GitHub actions, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, CodeCommit, etc
  • Design solution-independent architecture models that map business services to cloud application stacks
  • Must thrive working in a fast-paced environment
